Romans 12:3 “3 For through the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has allotted to each a measure of faith”

Christian artist Rich Mullins released a song which does as fine a job as any in bringing this message home.  The chorus goes:

We are frail, we are fearfully and wonderfully made

Forged in the fires of human passion

Choking on the fumes of selfish rage

And with these our hells and our heavens, so few inches apart We must be awfully small and not as strong as we think we are

It is an amazing thing to stand in the strength of Christ.  To know that you are forgiven of your sins, to have the power of the Holy Spirit dwelling within you, to know that you have sided with the winning team, to realize that your eternity is to be spent in the presence of almighty God is overwhelming.

The joy that such knowledge brings, the security and passion that it creates within us is unlike anything else in all of creation.  Yet, we must be careful not to let passion give way to arrogance.

No matter how great of a challenge you have overcome, no matter how far along you are in your spiritual journey, you didn’t get there on your own.  We never outgrow our need for Christ.
